Goal Setting Conferences
-Please start thinking about goals for your children as learning goals will be established collaboratively
-We have noticed this entire group is relatively chatty, so we would like to make our entire 4th grade goal to stay more focused and have more self-control in the classroom to get more out of our time in school. Having parental support in this goal will be key to their success.
Innovation Time
-Students get to experience the design thinking process with fun activities and projects
-4 Different modules throughout the year (Intro, Land, Space, Ocean)
Assessments
-iReady will be taken beginning of the year (starting today and tomorrow), middle of the year, and end of the year (after CMAS)
-enVision (math) will be taken online
-ReadyGen (LA) taken on paper so students can read a text and answer questions side by side. This will also include a written response question
-Social Studies and Science will be project based
Communication
-Email is the best way to communicate with all of the 4th grade teachers
-We will have a monthly 4th grade newsletter posted on our website which will be shared with you by the end of the week
-Meeting in person is typically best right after school but we need at least 48 hours to schedule a conference due to our own work/family commitments
-Communication can also be done through ClassDojo, which all of you should have received invitations
Technology
-Each of our classrooms has access to 10 iPads
-Integrate technology through all subjects
-Google Slides presentations, NewsELA, Readworks, Freckle, Prodigy, Math Games, etc.
Birthdays
-Due to our focus on healthy foods and emphasis on movement, we ask that there isn’t any food for birthdays for the class
-As a grade, we have decided that instead of snacks for the class, we would ask you to please donate a book to our library
-If you would like to give your child a special treat for their birthday, please put it in their lunch
-We will gladly celebrate birthdays by playing games or going outside
Homework Policy
-Students will receive reading and math homework every night
-Reading is 20 minutes or more per night
-Math is typically around a 10 minute assignment
-If students have their planner signed that they read 20 or more minutes the previous night, they will receive 3 points on ClassDojo
-If students turn in their math homework, they will receive 3 points on ClassDojo
-If students do NOT turn in their math homework, they will get 2 points taken away on ClassDojo
Field Trips
-Monday May 18th at State Capitol
-Planetarium for Innovation
-Volunteers will have to get themselves to our location (can not ride on buses)
How to Support Student Learning at Home
-Read at least 20 minutes everyday and sign their planner when they do
-Discuss what your child is reading (ask summary type questions and delve deeper by asking what are characters feeling, what do they think will happen next, etc.
-Practice multiplication and division facts at home (make your own flashcards or buy them)
-Visit Colorado National Parks and Historical Sites if possible (our Social Studies is focused on Colorado history)
-Talk about what your child learned that day at dinner or in the car ride home
Volunteer Needs
-Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher about their specific needs
Differentiation

-Reading Groups
-Personalization of science and social studies projects
